A message from the Holland America Club of the Pacific Northwest:
HAC Board resigned on May 22, 2016
Over the past six years, the Holland America Club of the Pacific Northwest (HAC) has renewed itself to a modern organization, with some concrete results that the community can pride itself on. The most important changes that have taken place over the past 6 years:
1) Renewal of the concept of membership: no more annual membership fee, pay per event
2) Communications to the community through Dutch Seattle (site, Facebook, twitter)
3) Financial structure, discipline, and compliance: annual financial results, annual budget, annual tax return filing, return to 501 (c) 3 status
4) Financial health
5) Migration from paper to digital records
6) Since Summer 2015, organization of events is now taken up by members of the community (otherwise, the events won’t take place)
7) And of course the 50-year celebration that took place at Novelty Hill/Januik Winery!
Over the past three years, the board of the HAC has approached many members of the community, to take a seat on the board. Unfortunately, no replacement has been found to date. As a result, the HAC has come to a state, where:
* The board has been serving for almost six years
* No successors have committed for any of the current board members
* The HAC has a healthy financial state and structure
* Organization of events takes place by members of the community
* There is great participation in events by the community
After careful consideration, the board of the HAC has decided to resign in its entirety, but first has appointed a committee to take care of the business obligations of the HAC. The main objectives of appointing such a committee are to:
a) Continue to make it as easy as possible to support events organized by the community, through having the same “services” in place as the HAC has been providing (e.g. event insurance, memberships, non-profit status.) The current financial assets of the HAC allow the HAC to carry the fixed costs for approximately ten years
b) In the future, make it easy to re-start the HAC organization, if so desired by the community
With the entire board of the HAC having resigned as per May 22, 2016, there are no board members anymore with specific tasks. As a result, the HAC will not organize events from this date onwards: Annual picnic (September), Sinterklaas (November), Nieuwjaarsborrel (January), or King’s Day (April) in 2016/2017 won’t take place, unless organized by the community.
DutchSeattle.com of course continues its independent role, to be the online communications hub for the community. For example, for any initiatives that the community would take with respect to the organization of an event.
Please note, that the HAC business committee has no role in communicating to the community about the HAC, or any matters that the HAC has taken upon itself in the past: this will be for future board members to take upon themselves.
Over the past six years, the board of the HAC has greatly enjoyed seeing such great participation at events, both regular events like Sinterklaas, and new ones like the Stamppotavond and Rijsttafel. Thank you, HAC board members, Andre van der Most, Karen Drapers, Laurens Adriaanse, Liesbeth Bosch, Matthijs Ballintijn, Mireille Koenders-Kools, Stefan Adelaar, and Wendy Talens, for serving our community!

Mireille Koenders-Kools (General operations), Liesbeth Bosch (Finance), Laurens Adriaanse (Secretarial matters and governance)
No Sinterklaasfeest is planned for 2016. This is a community driven event. YOU need to step up and come forward if you want to make this event happen.0 Comments 0 Likes
