The Oranjeschool, the Dutch Language and Culture school with classes on Saturday on Mercer Island, teaches elementary age students between 1 and 13 years old. The focus of the classes is on the Dutch language and culture, and the families really enjoy being part of this Dutch community. The school is going into its 12th year of teaching and great progress has been made over the last few years to offer highest quality education possible. This year the Oranjeschool will have 11 classes with enthusiastic students and teachers! The school board is urgently looking for a new President to ensure the continuity of the school. General responsibilities of the President include:
· Execute yearly school- and improvement plan as decided by the Board.
· Run internal communication (with board, director and teachers), including self-assessment of board and team.
· Identify areas for development in the professionalization of the school together with board and director.
· Communicate with parents on board related matters, such as school plans and quality management.
· Chair monthly meetings with the board and prepare agenda.
· External communication with NOB (Dutch institute of Education Abroad) where relevant.
The board currently has a treasurer, a secretary and a quality manager, and besides a President the board is also looking for additional board members like a volunteer chair who can organize volunteers when needed. The school’s day to day business is run by the director of the school. Looking for more connection with the Dutch community? Eager to help the Oranjeschool grow and develop? We hope you will consider joining our board.

Message from the President,***WE NOW HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE FOR THE SINTERKLAAS PARTY***
In the past 4.5 years we have managed to give the HAC a new lease on life through the successful organization of existing events like the annual picnic, Sinterklaas and Koningsdag, the creation of new events like the Stamppotavond, Nieuwjaarsborrel, and the hosting of one-of-a kind events like the 50th Anniversary and the Indonesian Rijsttafel. We feel that we have continued a valued tradition and, at the same time, made this traditional organization more relevant for the current participants within the community. The organization is financially sound and the events attract many different participants each time.
However, this board has been active for the last 4.5 years and we feel it is time for us to move on so that ‘new blood’ can further evolve the HAC. Unfortunately, finding board replacements has proven very difficult. We understand that not everybody has the time and/or energy to be a board member and that we have had a dedicated group of volunteers helping us these past years. At the same time, as a Board, we have to take a step back to give our usual volunteers and our board members a break. We are going to change the way the events are organized for the coming year. This will create opportunities for new volunteers/organizers to shine and to put their spin on events.
For the coming events: Sinterklaas Nov. 15th, Nieuwjaarsborrel Jan 9th) we will be using the SignupGenius service, ‘www.signupgenius.com”, to recruit the volunteers necessary to organize these events. This program allows us to create specific volunteer tasks for which you can sign up. ***Please note, the events will only take place if all necessary volunteer positions have been filled!*** For example:
No Volunteers, No Sinterklaas!!!!
We look forward to all the new volunteers and their ideas!
